Toptrek Folding lock, 94 cm review

The longest folding lock at the entry price here, at 94 cm, with 5 mm alloy links and eight rotating joints and a frame bracket included.

The bottom line The reach-per-euro choice. Take it if the problem you keep hitting is stands that are too thick to get a D-lock around.

Toptrek’s folding lock is the cheapest way into a lock format that actually solves a geometry problem.

What the manufacturer publishes

Five millimetre links in a high-strength alloy, described as resistant to cutting and shearing, with an outer layer intended to protect frame paint. Eight joints, each rotating through 360°. Unfolded length 94 cm. A double-sided B-class cylinder with milled teeth on both faces. An adjustable-diameter bracket for a range of seat tube sizes, plus a one-year warranty.

Where the reach matters

Ninety-four centimetres is a lot for a folding lock, and it is the whole argument for this one. A D-lock secures a frame and a wheel to a slim stand and stops there; at 94 cm you can go round a thick post, a wide railing or an awkward municipal stand and still get the frame and a wheel inside. That is a real category of parking spot that a D-lock simply cannot use.

Where it sits against the others here

At 5 mm, the links are thinner than the folding locks above it in this hub, and the cylinder class the maker states is not tied to a named independent scheme. Toptrek describes the lock as resistant to cutting and shearing; that is a manufacturer statement and we report it as one.

Availability

Present on the German, British, Italian and Spanish stores at the time of checking, and not found on the French one. Where a market has no listing, the buy button sends you to a local Amazon search rather than to a page that does not exist.

What we like, and what we don't

Strengths

  • 94 cm unfolded, so it goes round thick posts a D-lock cannot reach
  • Eight joints rotating through 360°, which is what makes a folding lock usable in awkward spaces
  • Adjustable-diameter frame bracket included, so the lock travels on the bike rather than in a bag

Compromises

  • Not currently listed on the French market — the buy link falls back to a local search there
  • The manufacturer states a B-class cylinder without naming an independent scheme
  • At 5 mm, the links are the thinnest in this hub

Questions people actually ask

How long is this lock unfolded?

The manufacturer states 94 cm. Only the TITANLOCK in this hub is longer, at 100 cm, and it costs around three times as much — so this is the longest reach available at the entry price.

Does it come with a bracket?

Yes. The manufacturer supplies an adjustable-diameter bracket described as fitting a range of seat tube sizes without damaging paint.
